WOW! What an amazing week we had at the Defence Lab annual summer camp 2017! Over 20 hours of training with our founder Andy Norman along with plenty of time to soak up the sun and enjoy the amazing food and drink!
I am continually blown away whenever I see Andy and the crew – just when you think the training can’t get any more clever or functional, they step it up a gear!
This year’s summer camp focused heavily on The Razor! A Defence Lab signature entry system and one that Andy is well known for. Clever, hard hitting and incredibly functional, just ask any of the Lincoln guys and girls that went this year and I’m sure they’ll tell you they were just as blown away as I was!
From looking at weapons work, to ground and pound MMA style, we covered a lot in the 5 days training and as always it was an incredible experience training and learning from Andy and the team.
Andy has an enormous pedigree in the martial arts, training under Guro Dan Inosanto (Bruce Lee’s friend and training partner) as well as various other very high level martial artists such as Roger Gracie and Braulio Estima among many others. It’s no wonder Andy has now reached that level within the martial arts himself and whether you are into sport combat, traditional martial arts, or street defence (the Defence Lab speciality) Defence Lab can offer something to add to your arsenal.
Along with the training there was of course, plenty of time to socialise and enjoy the beautiful Spanish summer weather. Hitting the beach and enjoying some Tapas was first port of call after training in the morning and it really bought into focus the community Defence Lab has built. There were instructors at the camp who have trained for over 15 – 20 years, along with people who had 2 weeks of training! Everyone helped everyone, everyone learnt from the best, and everyone socialised as one big community. This, to me is what I love about Defence Lab – as well as the punching stuff!
Andy, Sam and Anne from Lincoln came this year… who’s up for similar next year. We already have the dates as the last week of July! Training, sun, sea, sangria and lots of smiling faces, what more could anyone want!
