How can we help YOU?

Martial arts is a personal thing but the benefits of martial arts training are numerous. Defence Lab is on the cutting edge of self protection and personal safety for our adult DNA program, and our kids program is fantastic for focusing on fitness, confidence and anti-bullying. So here are just a few ways in which we can help YOU.

1) Increased fitness

Okay, show of hands. Who’d like to be less fit? Not many of you I’d imagine! The vast majority of us would like to get a little fitter, or lose a little bit of weight/tone up, and martial arts provides a perfect answer to this. If you’ve tried hitting the gym before, but lost motivation within a few weeks only to find you’re tied in to a year long contract, don’t worry, we’ve all been there. It can be difficult to find motivation to hit the gym on your own and push yourself. Finding a workout buddy is great, but are they as dedicated as you? Will they lose their motivation and leave you back repping the bench press or running that 5km on the treadmill on your own? This is why fitness classes have increased in popularity in the last few years. People want to feel part of something, and having others there while you work out can be that needed boost to get you to push that little bit extra on your workout!

This is what Defence Lab Lincoln offer. Not only do we offer a fantastic system of personal safety that is simple, yet highly effective. You’ll also get a great workout every time you come to one of our classes. Just ask any of our regular students and they’ll say (hopefully) that they come out of a Defence Lab class having learnt something, smiling and sweating! That’s what we aim to achieve in both our kids and adult program. We use high intensity interval training to really get your fat burning into overdrive, and our shaping and defensive systems are great for giving your arms a workout every session.

We guarantee that if you train with us just twice a week, you’ll notice a difference in your levels of fitness within 6 weeks. Fact.

2) Personal safety

The vast majority of us will hopefully never have to use anything we learn at Defence Lab in `real life`, but a good rule of thumb for general life is that knowing something is always better than knowing nothing! We NEVER scare monger and say there is an attacker on every corner, because there isn’t, but situations do happen unfortunately and Defence Lab provides some answers for this. Do we guarantee anything? No, but work hard, study the principles and we believe you’ll be a lot better off in any situation than if you hadn’t train with us.

We focus on function. Does it work? Will it stand the pressure? We pressure test everything we do. No hours of kata, hitting the air. Our system was born in the street and continues to evolve to meet society today. This is why we have been used by law enforcement around the world, as well as featuring in Hollywood a number of times.

3) FUN!

Everyone likes to have fun right? The best way to learn anything new and really engage with the material is to have fun while you’re doing it. We aim to make our classes for both adults and kids as fun and enjoyable as possible so you not only learn a cool system of self defence, get fit, but you’ll also have lots of fun on your journey with us.

Our kids classes are split between learning drills and games, all designed to be fun, get the principles instilled and improve fitness that the kids can carry on throughout their life. We think that if kids are active when they’re young, this will continue into later life and so in our own way we like to think we’re combating a growing obesity problem facing the UK. Put down the XBox, pick up the boxing gloves and come and see what we do.

Our adult classes are just the same. Have fun, smash some pads, get fit and meet a great bunch of people. All our guys are fun, friendly and welcoming so don’t worry about your first class, we’ll all make you feel welcome the moment you walk in the door.

Defence Lab Lincoln is part of a global network with our HQ in Valencia, Spain! There are regular opportunities for students and instructors to head over to Spain for some extra training in the sun. Just check out the video below of our Summer Camp last year!

4) Life skills

Martial arts instills a number of traits that are important in day to day life. How often in your daily life does confidence play a role. Are you heading to a job interview? Meeting a new client? Or simply just conversing with people at work. Communication and confidence are key skills in life and some of the things we teach at Defence Lab Lincoln.

Our kids program focuses on confidence, discipline and fitness – skills that can be transferred to later life.

5) Stress relief

There’s no better way of getting your stress levels lowered than coming for a great workout with friends and smashing some pads! If you’ve had a bad day at work in the office, it can be great stress relief to come and forget about everything else for an hour and focus just on yourself and your training. Hit the pads, get a sweat on and have a good laugh in the process.

Martial Arts in Lincoln – Private lessons at Defence Lab Lincoln

We’re proud to now be offering private sessions for those wanting to take their training up a level. Private tuition can have many benefits for your own training, from increased time to train yourself, to an ability to ask questions and go a little more in depth in principles that there might not be time for in a regular class.

So here we are – our top 5 benefits of private martial arts in Lincoln lessons.

1 – Private training for you

A private lesson is exactly that. Private for you and tailored for you. When you book in for a private lesson, we’ll discuss what you want from the lesson and what you’d like to improve on and from that, a lesson plan will be drawn up to best develop these skills. For that hour, the attention is on you and your own growth and progression. This means a little more personal and tailored a class plan than in a regular class, as well as the undivided attention of the instructor.

2 – More time on your drills

Private training means you can potentially get in double the amount of training as in a regular class. Why? Because you’re not also having to pad feed or have the drill done on you. While pad feeding and feeling the drill is an essential part of training in itself, it can be good just to come and smash the pads on your own once in a while. This is where private training can come in handy. A one hour private session will have you smiling, sweating and send your learning through the roof!

3 – Shift worker, no problem!

A change in work patterns or home life can sometimes mean that training at certain times has to take a backseat – it’s all part of life! While we encourage anyone who misses a week to make it up the week after, another option is to book in for a private session to catch up with any drills you may have missed, or may have struggled with previously. Come in for a private, have a blast and send your skills through the roof.

4 – Group privates

Getting some friend together for a group private can be a great way to have fun as well as learn some awesome skills in a more private environment. Split the cost and train together under the watchful eye of the instructor, we can tailor a lesson for you and make sure you get the most from the private session.

5 – Get fit, fast!

Private sessions can be a little more intense than regular sessions where you can let yourself slack a little sometimes! Make no mistake, we’ll make you work hard in any session you have with us, but especially in a private! You’ll have fun, learn lots of new things and my god will you sweat! 6 week beginners self defence course at Defence Lab Lincoln


New 6 week beginners self defence course at Defence Lab Lincoln!

We are excited to announce a new 6 week beginners self defence course starting April 3rd at Fight Specifix gym, Doddington Road Lincoln! This amazing facility boasts a boxing ring, punch bags and an awesome matted area where we will start to regularly hold classes at Defence Lab Lincoln!

For only £45 you will be introduced to the Defence Lab system and self defence in general over a period of 6 weeks starting Monday 3rd April at 20.00. The cost will include 6 weeks of training in our beginners course, a Defence Lab T-Shirt, and 1 month free training at our regular Defence Lab Lincoln classes!

You will cover

  • The law in relation to self defence
  • Psychology and physiological responses to adrenaline and stress
  • Awareness
  • The basic Defence Lab cover
  • Defending from standing, sitting and the ground
  • Functional fitness and weight loss

This is a basic course and will also be open to all current adult Defence Lab Lincoln students free of charge as a way to revisit and solidify the basic movements along with some funky principles and drills that are off curriculum! After the 6 weeks have finished, the class will become a regular Defence Lab Lincoln adult class and will be open as an extra night for all Lincoln students.
